SEO basics every small business website needs
You don't need a huge budget to show up on Google. Start with these fundamentals that most small business websites still get wrong.
A beautiful website that nobody finds is a very expensive business card. The good news: most of what makes a small business visible on Google is not complicated — it's just often skipped.
Start with what people actually search
Before writing a word, list the questions your customers type into Google. Not "innovative solutions", but "logo designer in Stockholm" or "how much does a website cost". Each important question deserves a page that answers it clearly.
One page, one topic
Give every service its own page with its own title and description. A single "Services" page trying to rank for everything usually ranks for nothing.
Titles and descriptions matter
The page title and meta description are what people see in search results. Keep titles under about 60 characters, put the main topic first, and write descriptions that make someone want to click.
Speed is a ranking factor
Compress images, avoid heavy sliders and test your site on a real phone. A page that takes five seconds to load loses visitors before they ever see your work.
Make it easy for Google to read
- A sitemap so every page is discovered
- Clear headings (one H1 per page, then H2s)
- Descriptive alt text on images
- Structured data so search engines understand who you are
Keep publishing
Search engines reward sites that stay useful. A regular blog post that answers real customer questions is one of the most reliable ways to grow traffic over time — which is exactly why this blog exists.
