Gröna Bladet

Packaging design for Gröna Bladet bicarbonate

Gröna Bladet, the Swedish spice company, asked us to design the packaging for its food-grade bicarbonate — the label for the 850 g jar, a brochure and a small visual system.

The brief

One jar, many uses

Gröna Bladet is a spice company we work with on many projects. This time it was a different kind of product: food-grade bicarbonate in a large 850 g jar.

More and more people want to clean without harsh chemicals, and bicarbonate does a lot — it cleans, it bakes, it removes bad smells, and it even works in the garden. The label had to say all of that in one look, and still feel like part of the Gröna Bladet family.

The label

Three icons say it all

The front panel keeps only what a shopper needs to decide:

  • The Gröna Bladet logo at the top, so the brand is clear
  • "BIKARBONAT" in large, bold capitals — readable from the end of the aisle
  • Three round icons: “För städning”, “För bakning” and “Tar bort dålig lukt” — cleaning, baking and removing odours
  • "Universalmedel för hushållet" — an all-purpose product for the home — and the 850 g weight in a solid green box

The side panels hold the rest: a short product story, the nutrition table, the batch number, a QR code, the barcode and recycling advice — each in its own white box with rounded corners, so the information never feels crowded.

The system

A font, four colours and a pattern

We built a small visual system so the label, the brochure and every future use look the same:

  • Brandon Grotesque — round, friendly and easy to read in every weight
  • Line icons in circles, drawn with the same stroke so they read as one set
  • Four colours: white, a soft sage, the Gröna Bladet green and black — fresh and clean, like the product
  • A green mosaic pattern of broken tiles along the edges of the label — a nod to the kitchen and bathroom tiles the product cleans, and a frame that makes the jar easy to spot on the shelf

The brochure

The same look, for the stores

For stores and retailers we designed a one-page brochure in the same sage, green and mosaic. It tells the product story, repeats the three icons and adds what a buyer needs: the article number, the weight and the number of jars per box, the nutrition table and the contact for orders.
